Wallacea is a biogeographical designation for a group of mainly Indonesian islands separated by deep-water straits from the Asian and Australian continental shelves. Wallacea is delimited by a line called Wallace line. It received this name after Alfred Wallace noted a clear difference in the composition of mammal and bird fauna between each side of the line.
Wallacea Week is an annual event initiated by the British Council to celebrate the biodiversity and culture of Indonesia, inspiring people to protect the environment and encouraging young people to explore science in various fields.
